The Department of Information Processing was established for the purpose of investigating and teaching the human-oriented information science and technology. The principles of the department are the integration of problems between different fields of study, the integration of problem-solving methods, and the integration of the values at which science and technology, and people and society aim. The department promotes: (1) comprehensive research and education which apprehend human functions and engineering technology in terms of human science and information technology, ; and (2) creative research and education for the creation of people-friendly (and easy to use) advanced information systems in a near-future society.
The department has expert teaching staff in the fields of: (1) information and communication technology, human science, and social infrastructure systems; (2) human information, visual information processing, speech signal processing, human interfaces, brain information, human communication, and sensory modality integration; (3) image processing, visual communication system, multi-modal processing, telemedicine technology, network interfaces, ultrahigh-performance parallel computer technology, and computer graphics; (4) multi-dimensional signal processing, system-on-chip, information security, neural networks, microprocessors, ultrasonic measurement, actuators, and medical engineering.
Out department offers education and research programs to students from various fields , including mathematics, physics and applied physics, electrical and electronic engineering, computer science, mechanics and system engineering, chemistry and applied chemistry. Using the individual education they had in their undergraduate courses as a basis, the department, looking from its own original perspectives, helps students to acquire specialized knowledge and tackle advanced research.
